Justo ahí, en ese asombroso mirador a 650 metros de altitud, se encuentra el Hotel Cerro de Hijar. A su falda, el pueblo de Tolox asemeja, blanco, un decorado de cartón piedra. Al frente se puede divisar, en días claros, las cumbres de Sierra Nevada. Alrededor, montañas, riachuelos, pinsapos..., naturaleza en estado salvaje donde recrearse con los cinco sentidos. Tolox está enclavado en el corazón del Parque Natural Sierra de las Nieves, declarado por la Unesco como Reserva de la Biosfera, que está especialmente dotado de arroyos y ríos que se mantienen vivos todo el año, donde aún perduran los bosques de pinsapos, una nutrida población de cabras monteses, corzos, zorros y meloncillos. Tolox (conocido por su balnerario de la fuente Amargosa, indicado para afecciones de nariz y garganta, oculares, bronquiales y del tracto urinario) no es pueblo de paso, sino de llegada y vuelta atrás. El establecimiento, cuidado en todos los detalles, consigue una atmósfera muy agradable basada en su decoración, mezcla de elementos antiguos y modernos, y en sus cuidadas áreas comunes. En su interior hay 18 espaciosas habitaciones, todas con vistas, y 16 con balcones al exterior; las dos restantes situadas en la planta baja (una de ellas, adaptada para minusválidos), con baño, minibar, calefacción, ventilador de techo y televisión. Un salón-biblioteca, con chimenea y ventanales al exterior permite al visitante abandonarse a la lectura o la simple meditación si el frío o la lluvia hostigan en el exterior. El restaurante, que también dispone de chimenea, tiene capacidad para 40 personas.
