Samtskhe - Javakheti region is one of the most popular destinations even for Georgians. Here every layer of the ground is special and keeps a memory of epochs.



We start our tour by visiting Rabati Castle in Akhaltsikhe (the entrance fee is not included). Rabati nowadays is the biggest castle in Georgia. Since the 9th century, it was the central fortification of southern Georgia. Rabati castle is one of the most magnificent places in Georgia. This place with its beautiful views and interesting history attracts more and more people every day. In Rabati Castle you can visit the museum to see medieval artifacts. Then We visit Vardzia - a cave city-monastery carved in the rock with its stunning sites (the entrance fee is not included). On the way to Vardzia, we stop at Khertvisi Fortress to take some beautiful photos for memory. In the end, we visit Borjomi Central park (the entrance fee is not included) to enjoy the beauty of Georgian nature and taste natural mineral waters which are medicine for your body.



Itinerary:

After driving through beautiful nature we reach Rabati Castle, the main sight of the Akhaltsikhe town. Castle stands tall since the 9th century and it has always been the main throne-hall for the rulers of this region. Its name comes from Arabic meaning “fortified place”. While you walk in this castle you feel like you are traveling in time and witnessing history by yourself. Here we explore this place with its beautiful sights, impressive towers, passages, halls, and museums.



After the traditional lunch (lunch is not included), we head out for Vardzia - a rock-hewn city monastery. Vardzia dates back to the 12th century. Carving this place in the rock was started by our king George III and finished by the famous King Tamar. Exploring Vardzia is so great a pleasure that you can't even notice how time flows. Walking through the rock-hewn rooms. tunnels, streets, and balconies make you feel like a real adventurer walking through the history of Georgia.



In the end, we visit Borjomi - a central park in Samtskhe - Javakheti region with its magnificent nature. In this park, you have an opportunity to taste our famous mineral waters which have unique healing qualities.
