Immerse yourself in the Middle Ages, visiting one of the most beautiful medieval villages of Italy. A few kilometers away from Siena, this village was always the center of the commercial development of the area. From this amazing place, visitors will never forget the wonderful ancient towers and the dreamlike landscape by which San Gimignano is surrounded.

The visit will begin from one of the main gates of the city, called San Giovanni, which was once the access for travelers, pilgrims, traders and bankers who were walking along the Via Francigena. Going into the heart of the village, you will reach Piazza Della Cisterna that still shows the details of an ancient time and of commercial and civic life. Here, the guide will suggest to you where to taste a delicious homemade ice cream that won many prizes in Italy and Europe.

Afterward, you will admire from the outside Piazza Duomo, the political and religious center of San Gimignano, where stands the Palazzo Pubblico (city hall) and the Cathedral.

The Palazzo Pubblico is the seat of the Civic Museum which preserves in the halls Sala del Podestà and Sala di Dante famous frescoes of the 14th century. The Florentine writer and poet Dante passed by San Gimignano as the ambassador of Florence. From this ancient palace you can arrive at the highest tower of San Gimignano (54 m), called Torre Grossa (Big Tower). From this tower, you can take incredible pictures of the village and of the surrounding territory and landscape.

The Cathedral still preserves the precious frescoes depicted by Sienese artists in the 14th century. If you are interested to visit one of these mentioned places, the guide will be happy to accompany you to discover these beauties from the inside.

You will continue the tour walking along the ancient streets of the village where you can find craft shops and unique artists workshops, to arrive at the Church of

Sant’Agostino where you can appreciate the wonderful works of Florentine artists of the 15th century.

Only to the more sporty, the guide will propose to go up to the highest point of the village, to enjoy a breathtaking view from the Rocca Montestaffoli (fortress), a Florentine bastion, where today is situated the Vernaccia Museum, the famous DOCG white wine produced in this area. Before going back you can relax a few minutes in the garden of the fortress and if desired have a toast in the wine shop of the Vernaccia Museum, with a little extra cost. In a few minutes, you will be again in the center of the Manhattan of the Middle Ages, ready for shopping, wine tastings or ice cream.
