Nicknamed the "underground city" for its buildings and rock architecture, Matera is located in the Basilicata region. Its biggest attraction is the "Sassi", a multi-level network of houses carved into the rock.
You will enjoy one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Matera has also won the competition for the European Capital of Culture (ECOC) 2019 and this was a great opportunity both to realize a process of urban regeneration that involved mainly cultural infrastructure that organizes a series of cultural events pan-European. Matera, a real jewel carved into the rock, is known for being one of the oldest cities in the world, its origins date back to the Paleolithic age. Our driver will pick you up at your departure destination and once you arrive in Matera you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Rione Sassi.
Next, aboard an exciting vintage Ape Calessino, you will have the opportunity to visit one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in the world in an unusual way. Do not miss the visit of the Rione Sassi, or the historic centre of Matera, characterized by houses, churches, narrow streets and stairways. The facades of the houses are made of stone and the interior is caves dug into the natural rock where until the fifties families lived together with livestock and without electricity or running water.
After the 2 hours, you can enjoy the tasting of typical products in a local restaurant and you will discover the small ancient town.
