Uncover Kyoto, the ancient capital with a thousand years of history and tradition in this half day drive tour. Discover the area’s most famous sights, get up close to UNESCO World Heritage sites and explore busy market to learn more about this ancient city’s heritage.
From this tour, you will also gain ideas and information on the attractions which will be useful if you like to explore the city in more depth later.
This is a comfortable tour which is suitable especially for both elderlies and young children as there is not much walking required. Along the rides, Cherry Tomato coach will pass by many beautiful spots for you to enjoy the sceneries and to take pictures. We specially designed the tour to start from 10.00 am as it’s not too early nor too late to enjoy this city tour.
• Tour kicks off with a visit to Nishi Honganji Temple, a large temple with outstanding Buddhist architecture. Explore the temple’s Amidado Hall (Hall of Amida Buddha), Goeido Hall (Founder's Hall) and Karamon Gate, a Chinese gate which was intricately carved. Listed as one of UNESCO World Heritage site, you will be amazed with the architecture and the treasures to be found in this incredible attraction.
• Next, head to Kinkaku-ji, a famous Zen temple which is an icon of Samurai culture and known as Golden Pavilion where you can take some great photos. Check out the temple’s Golden Pavilion, a 3-story building with the top two stories sheathed in gold leaf. Stroll the exquisitely beautiful Japanese garden and enjoy the unique sight of a pond which surrounds the temple when on clear days you may see the building’s golden reflection.
• Choose to end the tour at 1 of the two nice attractions either in Kiyomizu-dera temple or NIshiki market.
• Discover another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kiyomizu-dera, one of Kyoto’s most popular temple also known as Pure Water Temple. It’s best known for its wooden stage which offers a panoramic view around Kyoto. During spring and autumn, you can also enjoy the beautiful views of the numerous cherry and maple trees that erupt in sea of colour.
• Explore Kyoto’s most loved market, Nishiki market also nicknamed as “Kyoto’s Kitchen”! With more than one hundred shops and restaurants, this lively retail market specializes in fresh seafood, cookware, seasonal foods and Kyoto specialities, such as Japanese sweets, pickles, dried seafood and sushi. There are also many shops which freely gives out free samples for you to try out Kyoto’s specialities. The pleasant but busy atmosphere is a culinary wonderland for foodie who want to explore the delights of Kyoto.
Travel back to hotel on your own and you may challenge by using the subway trains. We will provide information for you to travel back to your hotel by train.
* Driver will pick you up from your hotel. Actual pick up time and meeting point will be advised in a Departure Notice.
Departure Notice will be faxed one day before service date to your hotel's front desk by 1700hrs (5.00 pm).
