Once a powerful and prosperous trading port, Malacca was the scene of many great battles as invading forces from Portugal, England and The Netherlands fought for supremacy. Take in St. Paul’s Hill, the striking remains of a Portuguese fort, Cheng Hoon Teng temple, the oldest in all of Malaysia and hunt for authentic artefacts and relics as you stroll along the antique row of Jonker’s Street.

Situated in a vital strategic location for various foreign colonizers, Malacca boasts a rich and diverse history of culture and architecture. Explore the Portuguese fort at St. Paul’s Hill and take yourself back in time to the 17th century when it was the scene of an epic seven month siege at the hands of Dutch invaders. Next, take in Stadthuys, an outstanding example of colonial Dutch architecture and now home to the engaging History and Ethnography Museum. Discover the Chinese’s influence on Malacca at the Cheng Hoon Teng temple, the oldest of its kind in all of Malayasia and once central to the spiritual aspirations of the Chinese community in historic Malacca.
