Program

Day 1:
Luang Prabang (Lunch, Dinner)
Arrive in Luang Prabang, the former Royal capital, situated in a valley in the middle reaches of the Mekong. Due to the incomparable beauty of the site and the extraordinary richness of masterpieces of Buddhist religious architecture, UNESCO has declared it a World Heritage Site. With more than thirty monastery complexes, all of which emanates the mystic sense of spiritualty which immerses in every visitor. Among the many, you don’t want to miss the visit of jewels such as the Vat Visoun, Vat Sene and Vat Xieng Thong. To admire the sweet colors of the sunset go to Vat Chom Si, at the peak of Phy Si, the sacred hill that dominates the landscape of Luang Prabang. Lunch in a typical Laos restaurant. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 2:
Luang Prabang (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Full day visit of the Pak Ou caves and the upper reaches of the Mekong River which is accessible by motorboat. Among the orchards and ripe vegetation emerges a village where among many other traditional activities still distills the lao-lao, the strong national liquor. When the river begins to narrow and a rock face begins to loom over the boat, we arrive to the starting point of our journey. We will begin to climb the sacred Pak Ou caves that over the centuries due to popular faith have been filled with thousands of Buddha statues. Lunch in a typical Lao restaurant. On our way back we will stop on the right side of the bank, across from Luang Prabang, to trek into the villageof Xieng Maen – famous for their cooked seaweed and ancient pagodas. Return to Luang Prabang to immerse yourself in the colorful world at the market of artisan foods. Which opens only at sunset on a road that runs between Phu Si and the old Royal Palace. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 3:
Luang Prabang (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Half day visit of the Kuong waterfall, along a road that runs into a natural landscape of quiet beauty. On the way are agglomerations of the H’mong ethnic minority – diehard warriors and opium poppy growers who have now abandoned their old habits but preserve their pride. You then reach the natural park with the beautiful waterfall whose water cascades over limestone rock formations framed by thick vegetation that then calms its momentum in turquoise lagoons where if you’re daring enough, you could also go for a very refreshing swim. Lunch in a typical Lao restaurant. Second half day visit of Luang Prabang by bike. In the afternoon, you can travel the streets of Luang Prabang (by bike) to look for some unusual purchases and for those who don’t want to ride and don’t like to walk – you can always find a tuk tuk. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 4:
Luang Prabang (Breakfast)
Waking up before dawn, you can make your way down to the main street of Luang Prabang to see the long line of more than 200 monks with the head of their Patriarch, that silently parade between their religious population which offer them their food for the day. Then we return to the hotel for breakfast. We will visit the National Museum located in the Royal Palace built in 1904, which now houses a rich collection of objects belonging to the Treasury of the Royal family as well as the feature of the Phra Bang – an 83cm high gold statue that according to tradition is the symbol of the Kingdom of Lane Xiang since the 13th century.
