At the reception desk we are at your disposal to give you informations to get started: tours, typical itineraries, concerts tickets, dining suggestions, watertaxi and porter reservations. All the main credit cards are accepted. From January 10th 2005, according to new Italian smoking regulations, all the inside and common areas are NON-SMOKING. \n##Location\nHotel Fontana is centrally located in a small square called San Provolo, just behind the square of San Zaccaria. The archway beside the building takes us back in time to when it was the main entrance of a convent, which nowadays leads to a large, paved courtyard overlooked by the impressive church façade of San Zaccaria. In this church lies the body of Zacharias, father of John the Baptist. Hotel Fontana (also known as Casa Fontana) was also a convent for about 30 years, where a few German nuns lived until 1968 at which point it was taken over the Stainer family. Fontana was the name of the former owner, who lived there in the19th century. Campo San Provolo is just 5 minutes walk from St. Mark's Square and even less from the main waterbus stop (San Zaccaria). Wherever you are coming from, you can quickly and easily reach the Hotel Fontana: all the main waterbus lines stop at San Zaccaria (see map for walking directions).\n##Rooms\nSince 1968 the Hotel Fontana is owned and run by the Stainer family. The building was originally built in the 18th century and restored in 1984. The typical atmosphere of a venetian house and the friendly staff will make you feel at home. All 15 rooms, overlooking campo San Zaccaria or campo San Provolo, have a private bathroom (with shower or bath-tub), sat-tv and telephone. Two rooms, on the garden side, have a private terrace with a view of San Zaccaria church. Most of the rooms are suitable for families with children and cots are available. \n##Exterior\nVenice surrounds you with its gems and treasures: our perfect location will make your visit more comfortable and will help you reach all the main attractions quickly. Immediately, once you leave the hotel, you have San Zaccaria's church with its fabolous paintings by Bellini and Tintoretto, that awaits you. Downstairs, in the 9th century crypt, you will find also the tombs of eight early doges. St. Mark's square with the Basilica, the Campanile (bell tower), the Clock Tower, the Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs are only a few steps away from the Hotel. In just ten minutes you find yourself at the Rialto, with its crowded markets, placing you really in the middle of venetian life. The Rialto Bridge, originally dated 1180 and replaced in 1588 by the current structure, is one of the most portrayed monuments of Venice. And what about Casanova and Marco Polo? You can walk the same paths they took and see where they lived. \n##Restaurant\nA delicious continental breakfast buffet is served each morning between 7.30 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. in the breakfast room. Breakfast can be served directly in the guest rooms upon request.
