This picturesque fishing village is a popular holiday destination. The pretty pastel hued cottages line the bustling crescent shaped harbour and stretch up the steep surrounding hillsides. You will be welcomed to Portofino with a tasty snack offered to you in a small square overlooking the port, before having time to explore the delightful village. Visit the Church of San Giorgio or the Brown Castle, once used in defence of the port, now a museum. There are also many trails and pathways to explore as well as the lighthouse.

A short boat ride takes you to San Fruttuoso. This charming little bay can only be reached by boat or by foot along the hilltop paths. This secluded spot is home to only an impressive Benedictine Abbey dating back to the eighth century, a church, the tower of Doria and 3 fisherman’s cottages. The true delight of this spot has to be the beautiful turquoise waters of the Liguria Sea as it laps gently on the shore of the small beach.

Deep in the waters of the bay is a bronze statue of Christ of the Abyss. With his arms outstretched, he was lowered into the sea by the locals in the 1950’s as a gesture of peace. Take a dive and see the imposing statue for yourself, or just relax on beach or gently floating around in the cool clear water.
