Il programma nel dettaglio

First we'll visit the picturesque town of Dolores Hidalgo, cradle of Mexican Independence where you can see the home of Friar Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, one of the nation’s founding fathers, as well as the parish church where he declared independence on September 16th, 1810.

Next stop is the Sanctuary of Jesus Nazareno de Atotonilco, a 17th Century baroque style church. We'll admire excellent murals painted by Antonio Martinez de Pocasangre, as well as a fine collection of religious sculptures. This shrine is also of historic importance because it was here that Hidalgo decided that the flag of the Virgin of Guadalupe would become the standard for the insurgent army.

San Miguel de Allende was founded in 1542 but is famous today for being the birthplace of one of the leaders of the war against Spain, General Ignacio Allende. After stopping for a splendid panoramic view of the town, we'll visit Allende’s historic home and the old headquarters of the Queen’s Army. Finally, we'll stop at the Plaza Mayor and visit one of the most photographed churches in all of Mexico, the Parish of San Miguel Archangel.
