Il programma nel dettaglio

Bask in the beauty of the Vila Velha State Park, where 600 million years of erosion, volcanic eruptions and glaciation have carved incredible sculptures, known as aretinhas, from the sandstone. The park was created in 1953 and was listed as a State Heritage destination in 1966. Here over 20 vast rock shapes rise from the lush vegetation, each one named after the object it resembles. Visit the furnas craters where still pools of water mirror the blue sky, and see the spectacular Golden Lagoon.

Discover the myth of the indigenous Tupi people that accounts for the unusual geology of the area. It's a story of love and betrayal, featuring a noble warrior, a goblet of alcoholic 'uirucuri', a beautiful woman and a somewhat predictable outcome. The goblet has become the symbol of Vila Velha, not least because one of the rock formations here takes the shape of a chalice. There's also a camel, a sphinx, boots and bottles to be spotted by eagle-eyed visitors.

Then head to the furnas, craters formed by underground erosion and collapse. Two of these have earned the ominous nickname Hell’s Cauldrons, where visitors can descend to a deck just above the mirror-clear water in a panoramic elevator. Finally, marvel at the Golden Lagoon, formed in a similar manner but golden in colour owing to the particles of mica present in the water. The intriguing and beautiful formations of the Vila Velha State Park are sure to captivate and enchant visitors.
