"Alebrijes" ... .do you know what are they? These animal-like mythical creatures made from papier-mâché or carved wood and painted as many different impressive colorful ways, and since the early 1900's have been an iconic part of the Mexican culture.

In this tour, you’ll have the opportunity to create your very own custom “Alebrije,” that you can take home, you can choose from different kinds of creatures from the renowned Alebrije workshop “Jacobo y Maria Angeles” directly from Oaxaca!! Extra bonus, all paint supplies to personalize your very own creation are included.



Our tour begins with a walk through Discover Mexico Park which includes our Museum of Popular Arts, showcasing works of contemporary folk art created by renowned artisans from all over Mexico including the colorful iconic “alebrijes” from Oaxaca. In fact, our museum boasts an original Pedro Linares, who is credited with inventing the “Alebrijes”. You’ll be sure to have lots of inspiration as you tour works of art from all over the country. Your tour guide, who will remain with you throughout your visit to the Park, is well-versed in all aspects of Mexican culture and history and will be happy to answer any questions.



Now that you’ve been immersed in Mexican art and culture, it’s time to release your creativity. Your kit for the workshop includes: I creature of carved wood, 6 different paints, sponges and toothpicks to apply the paint and a beautiful post card, all placed in a “Mexican sabucan”. Let your inner artist free as you express your appreciation for Mexican culture. Upon completion your creation will be safely packaged so that you can take it home with you as a unique and handmade memento of your visit.
