The tour begins at your hotel where a van will go pick the guests up to head 60 km to the South of the city, the most southern part of the world. The trip borders the Strait of Magellan, allowing sightseeing of a great variety of sea avifauna like: seagulls, Magellan sheldgeese, black-faced ibis and rock shag (Magallanic cormorant), among others. The trip lasts about 1 hour and the first destination is the landmark of the Centro Geográpico de Chile for photo shooting, to then continue towards Fuerte Bulnes at just 1 km away.



In this restored small fort, sightseeing of the church, the prison, the chaplain’s room, water wells, the munitions dump, the post office and the stables that belonged to the first Chilean garrison in 1843. Along the tour, the flora and fauna are diverse: it is possible to see land birds, like the southern crested caracara, a type of small eagle or bird of prey, the long-tailed meadowlark and its red chest, and the Austral thrush.



The flora counts with a great variety of specimens: lenga beeches, Anctartic beeches, Dombey’s beeches, romerillos, wild daisies, Chilean firetrees, hummingbird fuchsias, canelos, willows, pine trees, and the cypress.



After an hour of walking around in the small fort, the return trip begins, but not without visiting another historical place in the area of Buena Bay (or Mansa Bay), located at 1.5 km (1,640 yd) away from Fuerte Bulnes. Here, a visit to the Ciudad Rey Don Felipe, founded in 1584 by Pedro Sarmiento, later renamed Puerto del Hambre (Port Famine), time for photo shooting and know the local history. Return to the city of Punta Arenas at around 2pm.
