Il programma nel dettaglio

Experience life of the edge with this fascinating tour of Punta Arenas, the largest southernmost city in the world. Its location has given locals a tough character as befits living in a part of the planet where natural beauty, extreme harshness and isolation have forged a robust sense of identity. See the Magellan Straits, visit museums and explore the colourful streets and squares of this intriguing city.

Adventurers, pioneers, pirates and frontiersmen are writ large in its history and almost every corner tells the tale their experiences. Admire a panoramic view of the Straits of Magellan and the city together with a tour along the well outlined and elegant avenues and squares that house more than 30 monuments. Like most Spanish colonial settlements, everything radiates from a central square, Plaza Muñoz Gamero, which is dominated by an imposing cathedral. The square is also where the Ferdinand Magellan Memorial Monument and the breathtaking Sara Braun Palace are located. The latter was built in the 1890s by the prestigious Braun family in a neoclassical style with a strong hint of Beaux Arts. The Brauns certainly had good choice in architects as the Museo Regional de Magallanes in the Casa Mauricio Braun a block away is also a delightful design.

Drop by the Maggiorino Borgatello Museum and appreciate the superb collections of flora and fauna as well as the relics of folklore and indigenous handicrafts of the Yaganes, Onas and Alacalufes peoples who lived here before the arrival of European settlers. Come along and learn how history and the environment made Punta Arenas the city it is today.
