Il programma nel dettaglio

Along the banks of the Perfume River outside the imperial city are the tombs of the 13 Nguyen rulers. According to the practice of ancestor worship, everyone, especially the Emperor, assumed major importance upon death. The Nguyen emperors, copying the Chinese Ming dynasty rulers, built their own Valley of the Dead, which was both physically and spiritually protected. The 2 most interesting tombs are Khai Dinh's Tomb, which was 11 years in the making and was completed in 1931. Its architecture is in modern style with a blend of European and Eastern design. Inside the main hall are colorful glass mosaic frescoes and a life-size bronze statue of Khai Dinh. Also, Tu Duc's Tomb is a peaceful resting place enclosed by walls, features pine woods and a lakeside pavilion with lotus blossoms where the emperor once fished, listened to music, and wrote poetry. The emperor used it as a 2nd residence. The mausoleum was constructed between 1864 and 1867 by a force of 3,000 labors.
