Il programma nel dettaglio

Escape the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh with this spiritual morning tour to the ruins of Phnom Chisor temple. Located atop a hill with commanding views of the surrounding countryside, this stunning temple has survived the ravages of time rather well. Wander about the complex admiring the elaborately carved buildings that were raised to honour Hindu gods Shiva and Vishnu.

Enjoy the scenes of country life during the drive from Phnom Pehn, seeing typical wooden dwellings with washing blowing in the wind as cattle roam about. Arrive at Phnom Chisor and admire its majesty, perched high up, on a solitary hill overlooking rice fields. Originally named Suryaparvata (Mountain of the Sun) this marvellous temple was built at the beginning of the 11th century during the reign of King Suryavarman I.

Take a deep breath and prepare to climb the 412 steps leading up to the temple. It may seem a daunting climb but it is well worth the effort, not only for the beautiful temple but also for the spectacular views from the top. The complex comprises various galleries, six towers, a pillared pavilion (mandapa) and two shrines. Intricate carvings and impressive relief work will rouse your curiosity and the lush green interior with palm trees lends the enclosure a feeling of total peace and harmony. Many locals believe the temple has healing powers and as you breathe in the fresh air it is hard not to get a feeling of complete and utter serenity.
