Join us for a journey into the soul of flamenco at Cafetin La Quimera, one of the most authentic venues in Madrid. This legendary
tablao is renowned not just for the quality of its music and food but also for the manner in which it has eschewed the commercialised and plastic image sold outside Spain. There is surely nowhere better to enjoy a traditional Madrid stew (cocido madrileño) than at La Quimera.
The tablao lives by a peculiar set of rules and an unusual world view – there is only one truth: flamenco and stew. There is no fancy technology or ersatz décor, here there is only singing, dancing, guitar playing and hand-clapping. Lots of it. Even the waiters have been known to break into
cante jondo, which is considered the purest and most profound form of flamenco singing. This is music deep from the heart and soul; there is no script, there is no choreography – just passionate delivery. This is a genuine flamenco experience, where improvisation, emotion and feeling, what Andalusians call
duende (magic).
At La Quimera you will feel the passion and appreciate the emotion of this raw and powerful music. Observe the facial expressions of the performers, watch their every sinew move and see first-hand how the whip themselves into a frenetic frenzy that only flamenco can release.
