Program

Day 1: SOUTH AREA – UBUD (L)
At 8.30 am we'll depart for Ubud. Our first stop will be at Batubalan village to see Barong dance, a classic Balinese way of acting out mythology by pantomime dance. Barong Dance symbolizes the eternal fight between good and evil spirits. Then we continue to Celuk, the area of silver and gold artisan artists. Upon arrival in Ubud, lunch will be served in a local restaurant. After lunch, we will go to the Monkey Forest, one of Ubud’s most popular attractions; a natural forest sanctuary that is home to a horde of grey long-tailed macaques. Besides watching playful monkeys in their natural habitat, swinging through canopies, lazing along pathways or feeding on bananas, the site offers cool walks along paved pathways through a leafy nutmeg forest. Our last visit will be at Gunung Lebah Temple, also known as the Champuan Temple, one of Bali’s most unusual and a dramatic temple that is said to concentrate powerful earth energies. The temple was founded by a Buddhist priest and founder of Ubud Rsi Markandya in the 8th century and then it was expanded around 800 years later by a Hindu wise man called Danghyang Nirartha. Gunung Lebah means "small hill" in the Indonesian language. This temple is very quiet and peaceful. Gunung Lebah Temple is a temple that brought about the birth of Ubud in history. Overnight in Ubud.

Day 2: UBUD (B/L)
Full day tour to the breath-taking area of Mount Gunung Agung. On the way, we will visit the traditional Balinese village of Penglipuran positioned at 700m above sea level. It is best known for its well-preserved culture and village layout. While most of its residents have embraced modernity, its individual compounds are well-kept to look traditional with visitors in mind, with manicured gardens lining its single linear stone-paved street that runs through the center of the village toward the village temple, and age-old arched entrance gates and walls that conceal their houses within. Then, we will proceed to Besakih, the most important and biggest temple of Bali. The temple was built in the 11th century at 1000m above sea level, on the slopes of Mount Agung, the sacred volcano of Bali. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant with a beautiful view of Bukit Jambul hills. After lunch, we will proceed to visit the incredible painted ceilings of the old Klungkung's palace of justice “Kertagosa”. We'll have the chance to admire the ancient frescos that show a variety of the old methods of punishment.

Day 3: UBUD (B)
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart to Tegalalang, to see the famous rice terraces, and to Tirta Empul, holy spring in Tampaksiring village, famous for its holy water, where Hindu Bali people go for purification. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. After lunch, we will go to Gunung Kawi, Bali's oldest Hindu Temple complex: 200 steps down the canyon give access to this temple. It is an 11th-century old structure and it comprises 10 rock-cut shrines that are carved into some 7-meter-high (23 ft) sheltered niches of the sheer cliff face. Local tales say it has been carved into the rocks by a giant with his fingernails in one night, while he stayed down there. The rest of the afternoon is free for shopping and exploring. Overnight in Ubud.
