Podgorica city tour - Kuči – Local Traditional Winery – Cijevna Canyon – Niagara Falls

Podgorica is the capital of Montenegro located in the center of this country, at the intersection of several important road directions that lead from the sea to the continental part of the country. It is the main administrative, political, economic, traffic, scientific and educational – cultural center of Montenegro. The city is close to winter centers in the north and resorts in the Adriatic Sea. It offers a wide range of discoveries to visitors through cultural heritage, archaeological sites, monuments, museums, and through nature in a national park, active holidays, views of canyons, rivers and bridges, as well as enjoyment of traditionally produced food and wine.
Kuči is a name for the area and tribe, one of the mountain tribes that formed the state of Montenegro in the 19th century. In the past, the inhabitants of these areas were mainly devoted to cattle breeding and lived semi-nomads way of life, so it is very interesting to visit this region and hear about the customs and history of this mountain tribe. It is located at a distance of about 30 km from Podgorica. Especially in the hot summer months, this area is ideal for escaping to the clean air and enjoying in peace and quietness, away from the city tussle. Rijeka Cijevna, with a lenght of 56 km, springs in Albania, below Prokletije. Cijevna also has its own canyon, depth 1200 m, which is called by the local population Colorado. River Cijevna flows into Morača, and with it in Skadar Lake. In summer, Cijevna is the main swimming place for local population and numerous tourists. Beside the river and the canyon, visitors are attracted by the exceptional beauty of the Niagara Falls, too.
The vineyards and wine cellar you will visit are only 4 km from the old fortress Medun in Kuči. This family for centuries has been devoted in the cultivation of grapes and the production of top quality brandy and wines. The ecological environment, the specificity of the microclimate at 400 m above sea level (on the line between the Mediterranean and the continental climate) and the multi-century tradition of growing grapes give their black wine a good position on the wine map of Montenegro.
