The Stedelijk Museum, or Modern and Contemporary Art Museum Amsterdam, is well worth a visit during your holidays in Amsterdam. The Modern and Contemporary Art Museum Amsterdam is housed in a two-part building. The original building was designed by Dutch architect Adriaan Willem Weissman and completed in 1895. In 2012, a new wing—aptly nicknamed “the bathtub” for its polished white look and shape—was added to accommodate the ever-growing spatial needs of the museum. The impressive permanent collection features work by Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and many others.
