You will have the chance to visit a domaine for a guided tour capped off with wines tastings of the local red, white and rosé wine varieties. Usually, four or five different wines are tasted. You’ll also learn about terroir grape varieties, vinification and ageing cellars.



Wine from made from vines dotted around the picturesque village of Chateauneuf-du-Pape has been renowned since the 14th century, when it was a favourite tipple of Pope John XXII. Indeed, the name would translate as ‘Newcastle of the Pope’. The ruins of a castle stand over the town to this day.



If you take the tour on either a Monday or Tuesday, there will be visits to two separate domaines for the tastings.



And if you take the tour on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday, it consists of one wine tasting tour and a visit of the Roman Theatre at Orange, some 15km away from Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Admission and an audioguide are included.



This Unesco World Heritage Site dates from the 1st century BC and has survived attacks over the centuries by the religious fanatics and barbarians among others before falling into ruin. Today, operas and plays are once again performed in front of packed audiences.
