Ready to experience the best of Lyon along with a few, unique hidden gems? Join us for a historical walk around the city where you’ll see and learn about Renaissance architecture, taste a local treat, discover the narrow traboules of Lyon (secret passages), and hear some surprising facts and stories from your local guide.

Before we set off to explore Lyon, your local guide will get you acquainted with the city and tell you a bit about its past and present, customs, and festivities. Then we’ll have a sneak peek at a surprisingly beautiful hall hidden behind one of the busiest squares in the city. After crossing the river Saône, we’ll head to Europe’s largest UNESCO-listed Renaissance quarter.

While wandering along the charming, cobbled streets admiring medieval architecture, you’ll learn about the legendary past of this important settlement that once attracted famous families like the Medicis. After tasting a local treat in a small sweet shop, you’ll discover a unique way to get around the city: Lyon’s traboules. These are historical hidden passageways located between courtyards and through buildings all over the city, although only some are open to the public. We’ll then take a funicular ride to the top of Lyon where you’ll learn a bit more about the city’s rich history and culture. Next we’ll pay a visit to the Roman ruins of Lugdunum founded in 43 BC, before taking a look inside the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourviere to admire the outstanding mosaics of the highest standing church in the city. From here you’ll also get a chance to admire fabulous view of the riverbanks of Lyon (you’ll probably want to have your camera handy) before taking a relaxing walk downhill to finish your tour in the pedestrian area of the old town. As the tour comes to an end, your guide can direct you back to your accommodation or share some tips on how and where to spend the rest of your time in the city.
