Program details

Discover Xalapa and the neighbouring towns of Coatepec and Xico with this full day tour. The cool, verdant hills of the north central region of Veracruz, about 3,000 feet higher than the coast, are most often covered in a mist called chipichipi, which keeps things green year round and produces the perfect conditions for growing what is considered to be Mexico's best coffee as well as sugar cane, mango, tamarind and papaya. ‹br›‹br› The capital of the state of Veracruz, Xalapa is well-known for its many cosy cafés as well as its impressive Anthropological Museum, where you will be able to admire pieces from the Olmec, Totonaca and Huastec cultures. ‹br›‹br› Always a cosmopolitan city, Xalapa was founded as a settlement in 1380. Its name derives from the Nahuatl xallapan, meaning ‘spring water in a sandy place’. When the Spaniards arrived, those who could afford to avoid the scorching heat and extreme humidity of the port of Veracruz built homes in and around Xalapa, where much of the colonial-era architecture is still in evidence. ‹br›‹br› Then we'll visit the nearby town of Coatec, famous for its gourmet coffee before leaving for Xico, home of the delicious Mole Xiqueño and a huge waterfall. Then we'll head back to the resort where we will arrive at about 6pm. This full-day excursion includes hotel pick up and drop off, all transfers, sightseeing tour and the services of a bilingual guide. Please note that you will have to make your own arrangements for lunch.
