During construction in the 1970s and 80s, the Itaipu Hydroelectric Dam was regarded as a pharaonic work, the fruit of the megalomaniac commanders ruling Brazil in those years. In addition to the production of energy, Itaipu is also a symbol of environmental preservation, with the operating company of the dam supporting continuous reforestation programs and projects that encourage fish production and animal reproduction.
