Program details

Cruise along the Danube River: a link between Vienna’s trading and cultural past and its pulsating, creative present. As we cruise along you will almost hear the orchestral music of its most revered residents, Beethoven and Mozart.

HIGHLIGHTS:

* Relax on Vienna’s answer to Copacabana on Danube Island

* Excite your senses at the Hundertwasserhaus

* See where Vienna’s most extraordinary residents lived

Today the Viennese and travellers troll the waters in recreational boats of all sizes from paddle boats to rubber dinghies. Stop to dine and soak up the sun on the Danube’s shores as we anchor at Danube Island, a recreational utopia offering beaches and surf spots, bikes for rent, bars and much more. Chill on the exotic beach teasingly named Copa Cagrana for Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana and strip or shield your eyes for Danube Island also has many nudist areas.

Such pampering will leave you feeling like a royal family member, industrial magnate, or at least someone with deep pockets. Get a sense of what’s in their wallets during our visit to the Austrian Mint. The entity is responsible for designing and creating Austria’s Euro coins and many commemorative coins.

At the next stop, you will be blown away by the explosion of colours and eco-friendly architecture of the Hundertwasserhaus. Built in the 1980s, the apartment house was the brainchild of Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser and architect Joseph Krawina. Dubbed a ‘house in harmony with nature’, the floors undulate and trees grow inside the houses and poke out the windows.

Other more conventional homes are on the tour but the residents who inhibited them are far from ordinary. You will visit the homes of physicist Albert Einstein and composer Ludwig van Beethoven to learn more about the geniuses that Vienna gave to the world.
