Program details

Visit the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, a haunting reminder of the nightmare Europe became during the Second World War. A short drive from Munich, the picturesque town of Dachau, famed for its canals, parks and leafy streets, was chosen by the Nazis as the location for their first concentration camp. Today, the camp is open to the public as an emblem to the power of memory, with the hope that by remembering the terrible events that occurred there, they shall not happen again.

Not long after Hitler had risen to power, Heinrich Himmler opened Dachau as a political prisoner camp. With time, it would become a role model for other Nazi concentration camps and a ‘school of violence’ for the ruthless SS. With the coming of the Second World War and Hitler’s genocidal agenda, it would also be used for the imprisonment of Jews. The camp saw more than 200,000 prisoners during its 12 years in operation with more than 30,000 killed.

With this tour, pay your respects to the victims and learn more about the most harrowing event in history, thanks to the well-versed guides that will accompany you during the visit. Walk through the same doors prisoners walked through, to the parade ground, the prisoners’ entrance hall, the precarious bunkers and prisons, the showers and, also, the terrifying crematorium and gas chamber were prisoners were systematically murdered. This tour shies away from sensationalism and puts a bigger emphasis on fact and analysis to make it a valuable educational experience.
