Program details

Travel through Barcelona past, present and future then throw in a touch of spirituality, and you have this intriguing tour of in the city’s main highlights and the sacred mountain of Montserrat. Explore the Gothic Quarter, the port area, the Olympic Ring and the Poble Espanyol before an afternoon at the Benedictine Abbey of Montserrat.

The fun starts in the Gothic Quarter, a maze of narrow streets surrounding Santa Eulalia Cathedral. Continue down to the old port, a recently renovated area, extending the city centre from the Ramblas down to the sea. The hosting of the Olympic Games in 1992, opened up Barcelona to the world and the city experienced an economic and cultural renaissance. See the fruits of this at the Olympic Village and Olympic Port, and then climb Montjuic to visit the Olympic Stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi and the Calatrava Tower.

Continue to Poble Espanyol, a ‘village’ where traditional and landmark buildings from all over Spain have been immaculately recreated in real dimensions. Here you’ll have the opportunity to taste the famous Catalan cava. And what better way to end the visit than with an aerial view of Barcelona from the cable car to Montjuic Castle?

The final leg is Montserrat, which is reached after a drive through rolling countryside and past remote villages. Board the famous rack railway for the climb to the abbey, some 1,200 metres above sea level. Visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which houses the 12th century carving of La Moreneta, the Black Virgin. A final treat is the chance to taste four liqueurs distilled by the abbey’s monks.
