Program details

Escape the modern metropolis of Madrid and travel back in time to the ancient cities of Avila and Segovia with this fascinating day trip. While each one is famed for a particular landmark, both are packed with sights and attractions. You’ll be accompanied at all times by a professional guide and you’ll have plenty of time to discover their treasures and traditions.

Avila’s outstanding attraction is the ancient walls, which have a perimeter of more than 2.5km dotted with 88 towers and nine gates. Behind this medieval bastion lies a city of immense beauty and heritage. Visit the fortified Gothic cathedral, the Convent of St Teresa of Jesus and then wander around the ancient streets.

Continue to Segovia, itself famed for its majestic Roman aqueduct. Other attractions are the Gothic cathedral and the famous Alcazar, which was one of the inspirations for Disney’s Cinderella castle. Visit Plaza Azoguejo and admire the aqueduct, which dates from the reign of Emperor Augustus. Enjoy a walking tour through the ancient streets before settling down for lunch with the choice of a tourist or full gourmet menu. Alternatively, you can try one of Segovia’s many charming restaurants; the local speciality of roast suckling pig is renowned throughout Spain.
