We invite you to discover the historical city of Toledo, just an hour south of the Spanish capital.

HIGHLIGHTS:

* One of Europe’s oldest settlements

* Admire a fascinating amalgamation of historical periods and cultures

* See paintings by El Greco

The city, a Unesco World Heritage Site, is situated in the heart of ancient Castile atop a rock in a bend of the River Tagus. Toledo is one of Europe’s oldest settlements and is considered a museum city of great artistic beauty. It is also known as the City of Three Cultures where Christians, Muslims and Jews lived together.

Admire buildings from almost all periods of history such as Moorish, Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance and Baroque. Toledo was also home to the great painter El Greco, who lived here during the 16th century. Visit the stunning cathedral, with its splendid architecture displaying a range of Spanish Gothic styles. The interior also contains numerous art treasures such as stained glass windows, the choir, main chapel, altarpieces, paintings by El Greco and much, much more.

The Alcazar of Toledo is another sight that cannot be missed. This fortress, which is located in the highest part of the city, houses the Army Museum as well as the Library of Castile and La Mancha. If you take the tour on a Monday, you visit the Cristo de La Luz Mosque instead of the Alcazar. At midday you can take a well-earned rest and enjoy either a set lunch menu, including vegetable stew, veal with green beans and French fried potatoes, vanilla ice cream with fruit salad, or a traditional Castilian meal including appetizers and Castilian tapas, roasted lamb with vegetables and truffle cake with ice cream. At the end of the day, you will be driven back to Madrid.
