Program details

Much of La Palma's volcanic interior is only accessible foot. The whole island is criss-crossed by a network of footpaths, tracks and drovers' roads, once used by local people for travelling and carrying their wares from one place to another before the advent of roads. On this 4 hour trek we'll cross undulating fields of lava, fragrant pine forests before visiting the pretty village of San Nicolas where you'll sample some local wines and tasty traditional tapas.

The walk starts at the Llano de Las Brujas, a 1,000 metre high viewpoint with impressing views over barren lava plains, emerald green forests and dramatic volcanic mountains We'll take a path down through fragrant pine and cedar forests as we admire stunning views up to the Volcano of San Juan. We'll come right up close to solidified rivers of lava, a result of the eruption back in 1949.

We'll continue through the Llano de Tamanca, passing fruit orchards, vineyards and small agricultural settlements that grew up here after the volcano vented its fury. Soon we'll walk into the pretty village of San Nicolas, one of the island's prettiest villages. After all the exertion you're sure to have worked up a healthy hunger and a thirst. We'll sample some tasty traditional tapas washed down with some of the excellent local wines, a product of the fertile volcanic soil.
