Program details

Come and discover the incredible scenery of the Rias Baixas in this full-day tour of the O Salnés Peninsula between Arousa and Pontevedra. Experience the culture of Galicia, visiting remote fishing villages and sophisticated resort towns highlighted by the dramatic backdrop of the Atlantic. Then go on a trip by catamaran into the ria and try some of the best mussels grown anywhere in the world washed down by local tipple Albariño.

The tour starts at the well-preserved mediaeval town of Pontevedra – we'll visit the old churches of As Peregrinas and Santa Maria A Maior, the charming Praza da Leña and the porticoed streets of A Ferreira and San Telmo.

We'll pass Comarro, a wave-battered fishing village with scattered stone crosses and mediaeval granaries, and the sophisticated resorts of Sanxenxo and Portonovo, heading for the spectacular beach of A Lanzada, linking the peninsula of O Grove to the mainland. Admire the nearby 13th Century Romanesque Hermitage and the ruins of a 10th Century watchtower.

The peninsula of O Grove is world-famous for the quality of its seafood and here we'll board a catamaran for a trip out into the Ria de Arousa heading for the mouth of the River Ulla, according to legend the same route taken by the boat carrying the bones of the Apostle James. We'll sail past bateas, platforms used for growing mussels and you'll get to try some together with a glass or two of Albariño, the region's famed white wine.

We'll make a stop at the island of A Toxa, famed for the quality of its waters before the excursion ends at the charming seafaring settlement of Cambado
