Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity see first-hand the stunning Barranco del Cobre or Copper Canyon, a natural wonder four times larger than Arizona’s Grand Canyon. On the way, also visit Cuauhtemoc’s Mennonite Museum, where you can admire many artefacts brought by the first Mennonite settlers that arrived at Chihuahua at the beginning of the 20th century.

After leaving Chihuahua, head south-westwards towards the foothills of the western Sierra Madre. The first stop will be at the fascinating village of Cuauhtemoc, settled by the Mennonites, a pacifist Protestant religious sect that began arriving in the area from Russia and Canada in the 1920s either to escape persecution or in search of somewhere to be left in peace.

Then after a light lunch, head out to Divisadero, a privileged viewing point for the Barranco del Cobre system. The Barranco is formed by six distinct canyons, larger and deeper than the Grand Canyon in the US. You will understand how the Barranco got its name when you see the greenish copper colour of the canyon’s walls.

In this guided visit you will have the opportunity to visit the observation decks around of Divisadero as you enjoy stunning views down to the canyon floor, hundreds of metres below you. Don’t miss the opportunity to snap up beautifully worked handicrafts by local Tarahumaran artisans. If you wish to help the region's indigenous community, you can take along school supplies, toys or clothes for Tarahumaran children. Then go to the very edge of the canyon for some more incredible views.
