Program details

Discover the two most contrasting faces of Istanbul on this double tour, first to the trendy nightlife centre Istiklal Street, and later to the wonderful ancient ruins of Galata, a former Genoese colony that supervises the beautiful Golden Horn.

Meet up with your knowledgeable guide in the very heart of Istanbul, Taksim Square, from where he will take you to the hippest street in town. Istiklal has been the go-to place for parties and nightlife in Istanbul for more than 150 years. Tourists, locals and even diplomats mix and mingle in the areas’ many restaurants, shops, hotels and theatres. Explore the exciting side streets off Istiklal and enjoy a leisurely break at one of the most intriguing coffee shops around. Your guide will show you the district’s most amazing constructions such as the Armenian and Catholic churches, the very old quarters and the breath-taking walkways.

The second part of your tour leaves the present behind and takes you way back to the times of the Byzantine Empire. The hillside where we now find Galata was originally a large orchard known as Peran en Sykais, the Fig Field on the Other Side, meaning on the other side of the Golden Horn, one of the most beautiful rivers in Turkey. With the rise of the Byzantine Empire, it became Galata when the emperor Theodosius II constructed a huge fortress upon it. Visit the iconic Galata Tower and the many ancient buildings that date back to the Roman period. A huge change from the hectic modern-day life at Istiklal!
