As a former capital of Scotland, the beautiful city of Stirling boasts a number of historic attractions though none is more dramatic than the hilltop castle, from where medieval monarchs ruled the country. (Admission to the castle is optional.) Enjoy a tour through the old town and see the Wallace Monument.

Continue to the Deanston distillery, which is famed for the quality of its single malt whiskys, and if you choose to avail of the guided tour (which is an optional extra) you will learn all about the ancient distillation process from fermentation to ageing before enjoy a tasting session.

The fun continues on the road to St Andrews, where to the accompaniment of traditional Scottish music, you will learn about Scottish golf, religion and legends as the tour crosses the Gleneagles valley. Stroll through St Andrews, discovering its most emblematic attractions and the best places to eat. Visit the ruins of the castle and cathedral and see the Old Course, where golf has been played since the 15th century.

On the way back to Edinburgh, stop briefly at the picturesque fishing village of South Queensferry and admire the Forth Bridge, a Victorian-era marvel of steel engineering.
