Program details

Discover the real Moscow in this fresh and fascinating walking tour. You’ll get to discover another side to this fascinating city, far from the tourist hordes, in the company of an expert local guide who’ll provide you with plenty of insider info and historical and cultural background to one of the world’s great cities.

The tour starts with a visit to the monument dedicated to Prince Yuri Dolgorukuy, the founder of Moscow back in the 12th Century. Stroll around the avenues and boulevards of the city centre, lined with mansions, theatres and sophisticated restaurants. Venture into the network of back lanes off the tourist trail and delve into the many small shops and craftsmen’s workshops.

From here we’ll go on to visit some more of this magnificent city’s main landmarks including the Bolshoi Theatre, Red Square, the Kremlin and, the world-famous Metropol hotel, built in the Art Nouveau style in the early twentieth century. Your knowledgeable local guide will point out all the main landmarks including the many spires of the city’s Orthodox churches crowned with their signature golden domes, contrasting with the imposing silhouettes of the Seven Sisters, a collection of Stalin-era skyscrapers dotted around the city.

We’ll cross the Moskva River for a visit to the splendid Christ the Saviour Cathedral, one of the largest in the world. The Cathedral was rebuilt during the 1990s after its destruction by the Soviet regime in 1931. The tour will end with a refreshing cup of tea or coffee and a delicious home-made snack in a local Russian-style café. Your guide will be able to give you more tips on things to do in Moscow, or give you directions back to your accommodation.
