Journey through time as the Madeira Story Center’s chronological exhibits guide you through millions of years of history. From the volcanic eruptions that drove the land above the Atlantic Ocean to the islands first human settlers these interactive displays will engage all your senses as you learn by completing games and challenges. Some exhibits cover specific important events, others summarize the events of centuries such as the turmoil and trade of the medieval period and the legends of the great Portuguese explorers. Both children and adults are sure to be captivated by the stories and characters you will encounter


Take time to browse the incredibly well stocked gift shop which has a whole host of the best souvenirs, arts and crafts in town. It also boasts a themed café where you can quench your hunger and thirst with some delicious local snacks and specialities.


A must-see attraction in Funchal, it is recommended to visit the Story center early on in your trip as you can apply your new found knowledge as you explore the rest of your island and appreciate its sights and sounds with a far richer understanding.
