Program details

Explore the northern half of the beautiful island of Madeira with this day-long tour in the company of a knowledgeable guide. The varied volcanic landscapes of Madeira featuring sweeping valleys, majestic mountains, spectacular waterfalls and beautiful natural pools form the backdrop to an unforgettable excursion by jeep.

Setting off from Funchal the tour heads through the valley of Serra de Água towards Encumeada, a dramatic summit where both the northern and southern halves of the island can be viewed, weather permitting, at the same time. The next port of call is a traditional workshop, where some aspects of the local culture still survive and there will be the chance to sample the regional drink (payable locally). Heading past the village of Sao Vicente there will be the opportunity to admire one of the most beautiful points on the north coast, a road built on the rocks near the sea where a number of astonishing waterfalls may be seen. The excursion continues to Porto Moniz, a small village renowned for its volcanic swimming pools. The drive then crosses the majestic plateau of Paul da Serra which, at 1,400 metres above sea level, is unique on the island. After lunch (not included in the cost of the tour) we continue westwards for a visit to the attractive harbour town of Ponta do Sol, before returning to the hotel.
