Funchal – Camacha - Pico do Areeiro – Santana – Machico.
The chance to visit the Peaks of Madeira and experience the contrast between East and West. Leaving Funchal, towards the village of Camacha, we will stop at Abrigo do Pastor - an opportunity to sample a typical drink (payable locally), and then climbing to Pico do Arieiro, for some amazing views over the volcanic mountains - Pico do Arieiro is the second highest peak on the island located at 1810m, and the highest accessible by vehicle. From here, it's down to Poiso and lunch (not included). Afterwards, drive ‘on and off’ the road, across the leafy forest of Laurisilva to the Natural Park of Ribeiro Frio where you can try a short and easy walk to the impressive viewpoint of Balcões, before continuing ‘on and off’ road, to Faial and Santana, the village famous for its ''A-framed'' cottages; it also provides the opportunity for you to step back in time and see how the locals used to live. The drive will continue through some fantastic scenery, passing Porto da Cruz and Machico and its bay where the discoverers of the island landed.
