Program details

Hong Kong’s rise from humble fishing harbour to international financial centre is one of the most remarkable transformations of our time. This fascinating half-day tour tells that story through visits to trading hubs that have helped effect this turnaround. You begin your adventure at the Western Market, the Ginseng and Bird’s Nest Street and the Herbal Medicine Quarter before making our way to Hollywood Road, the centre of Chinese antiques trading. We then visit Cat Street, originally the location of the black market, now an open-air curio market.

In Tai Ping Shan, the shops and galleries are new and contemporary, and the culture is decidedly more Western and international. The combination of European style influences and traditional Hong Kong streetscapes has created some intriguing neighbourhoods in SoHo and NoHo.

A ride up the 800-metre long Central-Mid-Levels Escalators, the world’s longest outdoor escalator system, is a must for visitors to the city. It transports you through a district that epitomises the juxtaposition of the traditional and the modern in Hong Kong.

As we make our way to Central, we pass through Graham Street and its wet market, which has been continuously operating for more than 160 years. This relic of the past stands in stark contrast to the skyscrapers of the district.

Hong Kong is a city in its own class, where tradition and culture have merged full speed with modernity and international influences. From Rags to Riches, this Hong Kong tour will excite your senses and pique your curiosity.
