Program details

Get out of the city and discover some of the stunning natural scenery around Auckland in this half day tour to the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. Explore a network of tracks taking you to the plunging sea-cliffs, old growth Kauri forests and the stunning black sand beaches on Auckland’s west coast. The ranges offer a rare opportunity to live and breathe the great outdoors just a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Feel the contrast behind the hustle and bustle of urban Auckland and the wild Waitakere Range, only minutes away but much further in the imagination. Walk along deserted beaches, the sound of the Pacific Ocean in your ears, the breeze in your hair and the salt spray in your face. There are hundreds of kilometres of walking tracks offering a vast array of hikes over mountains, through river valleys and along wild deserted beaches. Along the park's western sea boundary are some of New Zealand’s best surf beaches. Towering cliffs, massive black sand dunes and roaring surf make these beaches unforgettable.

Stroll through well-preserved coastal rainforest as you learn all about the local flora and fauna. Stop to admire the giant tree ferns growing alongside picturesque streams in this regenerating rainforest. Venture into an area of old growth rainforest with mature 1000 year old Kauri trees. Your guides will explain how New Zealand’s isolation means that 70% of the native plants are found nowhere else in the world. Learn all about the native species as you walk amongst the famous Kauri trees and native birds.
