Program details

Come along for a tasty tropical food and wine day tour to the nearby Cairns hinterland, the Atherton Tablelands. Visit natural areas of scenic beauty and small villages along the way and drop in at two tropical fruit wineries, a gourmet coffee producer, a cheese factory and a macadamia plantation.

Travelling in a small 21-seat bus, you are ensured a personalised experience away from the crowds on this fascinating tour. The experienced guides entertain you throughout the day, providing information about the history of this productive region and the sights will see along the way. The day is a paddock to plate experience where participants are able to interact directly with the farmers and artisans.

You are afforded stops at both the World Heritage listed wet tropics rainforest as well as the lesser-known dry tropical savannah. In the rainforest you can get up close to 1,000 year old twin Kauri Pines and see the stunning 550 year-old Cathedral fig tree. Enjoy some morning tea at the coffee plantation where Bruno explains how a 100 year old machine roasts his excellent coffee. At Gallo Dairyland you hear a special cheese making talk with cheese tastings included. Further on at DeBrueys winery taste tropical fruit wines, ports and liqueurs. A scrumptious tropical seafood lunch awaits you at the Tolga Hotel with alternative options available. Enjoy some macadamia nuts at Wondaree plantation where you visit the trees and tour the packing and sorting shed. Finally enjoy some Devonshire Tea overlooking a volcanic crater lake at Lake Barrine Teahouse.
