Program details

Discover the beautiful south of the beautiful island. Travel by luxury air-conditioned bus and then take a series of non-strenuous walks down ancient tracks. In this part of La Palma you'll find unearthly volcanic landscapes, charming villages where time seems to have stood still and some amazing views down into the Caldera de Taburiente. You'll also have the chance to learn about the traditional way of life of the islanders with a visit to a tobacco farm and the salt pans at Fuencaliente.

First stop is a tobacco farm where you can learn all about the traditional manufacturing process. We'll continue north towards the Caldera de Taburiente, a massive crater measuring 10km across. Enjoy the breathtaking views of 1000m cliffs plunging down to the floor of the Caldera. We'll also walk along the very spine of La Palma with incredible views down to both sides of the island from a range of 2000m high volcanic mountains The Cumbre Vieja is a volcanic ridge covering the entire southern third of the island and you 'll find an impressive series of volcanic craters scattered across a landscape of unearthly beauty.

The climax of this tour has to be the sight of the still smoking Teneguia volcano, site of the last eruption on Spanish soil back in 1971. It's not difficult to imagine the earth as it must have looked in its infancy millions of years ago. We'll then visit the nearby Fuencaliente salt pans where local people have been producing sea salt for centuries.
