Program details

Immerse yourself in the traditional life of Lombok with this cultural and scenic tour that takes in Sasak villages and some truly stunning beaches. Admire handcrafted pottery and see villagers weave just like their ancestors did generations ago. Spend free time in secluded strands, breathing in the fresh sea breezes and splashing about in the water.

The Sasak are the predominant ethnic group in Lombok and, unlike the neighbouring Balinese, are mainly Muslim. Head to the Banyumulek Pottery Village, where you can see the process of making kitchenware and other utensils from clay, using traditional combustion techniques. See row upon row of art shops selling various handicrafts such as barrels, kettles, vases, bowls, jars and much more. As always in Lombok, the artisans are incredibly friendly.

Continue to the village of Sukarara, which is renowned for its weavers. This ancient tradition is passed down from mother to daughter at an early age. Observe the women on their front porches as they weave the songket patterns and designs associated with Sukarara. Which are made with fabrics dyed from natural products only such as rotting banana stems for brown and mangosteen peel for purple.

The village of Sade is famed for its traditional ‘rice houses’, which are raised on wooden piles with bonnet-shaped roofs made from elephant grass. After all that culture, it’s time to chill out at the beach. First visit the paradisiacal Kuta where turquoise waters lap against white sands hemmed in by verdant hills. Then experience more of the same at Tanjung Aan before heading back to your hotel.
