Program details

Discover the many sights and attractions of lovely Lombok island with this fascinating half-day tour. Travel through the verdant countryside and visit major landmarks such as the Mayura Water Palace, the lively and colourful Mandalika market, the awe-inspiring Taman Narmada gardens and the historic Pura Lingsar Temple.

Explore the faded glory of the Mayura Water Palace, which dates from the 1740s when the Balinese ruled Lombok. The open-sided ‘floating’ hall is located in a lake, flanked by trees while the palace itself is surrounded by a low stone wall decorated with fantastic carvings of animals. The palace was the scene of a battle between the Dutch and the Balinese and the scars can still be seen in some parts.

Continue to Mandalika market, which is considered the most important in Lombok. Apart from the vast array of spices, fruit and vegetables on display, it is famed for its sights and sounds: the din of customers and stallholders haggling in up to 30 dialects.

Escape the hustle and bustle of the market for the beautifully landscaped Taman Narmada gardens, which were built in 1727 by King Anak Agung Ngurah Karang Asem as a royal retreat and as the place to worship. Its spring water is believed to grant the eternal youth. The tour ends of a spiritual high with a visit to the 18th century Pura Lingsar Temple, which is the only Hindu temple in the world that also allows Muslims to worship in it. Keep an eye out for holy eels!
