Il programma nel dettaglio

On this full day tour through the countryside around Asuncion you will learn the history and enjoy the craftsmanship and beautiful landscapes of the region. The tour includes visits to the cities of Itá, Yaguarón, Caacupé, San Bernardino and Itauguá.

South-west of Asuncion is what is known as the capital of ceramics, Itá. Here you may discover Hispanic ceramics viewable in the artisan’s homes. Onwards, you reach Yaguarón located at the base of Yaguarón Hill and containing a stunning 17th century church. A beautiful expression of the baroque style of the Franciscans, the church houses gold carved sculptures. The town began as a Franciscan reservation for the Guaraní Indians.

Caacupé may appear to be a quiet provincial town but it is the site of the Virgin of Caacupé, which is housed in the cathedral. A major religious festival is held annually on December 8 in honour of the statuette of Our Lady of the Miracles. An enormous basilica stands in the centre of the town, and here 300,000 of the faithful make their way here in a pilgrimage for the festival.

San Bernardino is the main location for water sports and summer activities in Paraguay. This holiday destination located beside the famous Lake Ypacaraí is very picturesque. Originally founded in 1881 by German immigrants, you can still see buildings remaining from that period. In Itauguá you will be able to observe and buy the incomparable lace called Ñandutí. Listen to one of the locals proudly tell you of the legend of the Ñanduti.
