Program details

No trip to Italy is complete without seeing what the tragic city of Pompeii reveals about ancient life. However, few can fit it in without transport. Our relaxing day trip to Pompeii from Rome will take you on a climate-controlled bus on the Highway of the Sun to discover the south of Italy.

Follow your expert local guide as they recreate the hustle and bustle of this once-busy port town, explaining what each building was used for, where families ate their meals, did laundry and socialized – and where sailors went when they docked. They’ll recreate for you the final days of Pompeii as you examine the harrowing death casts scattered around these ruins at the foot of Mt. Vesuvius. As you listen to your guide via headset, you will be sure that you catch every word, with a little extra space for wandering and picture-taking!

Hike to the crater of Mt. Vesuvius (April to Mid-November)

After exploring Pompeii the coach will carry you up the slope of Mt. Vesuvius (from April – mid-November), one of the few active volcanoes in Europe. From here, you can take the short walk up to the steaming crater for unbeatable views of Capri and Sorrento.

Positano and Amalfi Coast (Mid-November to March)

From early November to March, the Vesuvius isn’t accessible, and it is replaced with a visit to the city of Positano and free time with a panoramic bus tour of the Amalfi Coast.

Important Information - There may be restrictions

During the summer months in rare cases of adverse weather conditions or strikes, the crater of Vesuvius may be closed to visitors. In the event of closure, it will be replaced with a visit to Naples where you will enjoy free time to explore the city at your leisure.
